Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Lazaro K. Sumbeiywo MGH, CBS, (Rtd)

General Sumbeiywo served in the Kenya military for 35½ years. While serving in the military, he was appointed twice, 1997 and 2001 as Ambassador and Special Envoy to Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on Peace Process in Sudan, until the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement when he retired from Government Service and joined Moi Africa Institute on voluntary service where he remains to date. In 2008, He was called to assist the UN Special Envoy of the Secretary General in the Great Lakes Region as the Special Adviser in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. With four other Kenyans, in 2008 formed Concern Citizens for Peace. In 2010 He was contracted by the UN as a Consultant and Resource Person to the Africa Union High Level Implementation Panel. 2013 appointed IGAD Special Envoy on the crisis in South Sudan.
